Some of these books can be used as a reference books rather than studying them cover to cover. M. Dvorestky’s ‘Endgame Manual’ and ‘Analytical Manual’ as well as ‘Perfect Your Chess’ by A. Volokitin and V. Grabinsky will challenge you to work harder than ever before.

Chess Openings and Systems Books

It’s tricky to keep up with chess openings’ improvements using books. Openings more than systems evolve over the time. If you are a beginner moving towards an intermediate chess player, books on openings might explain the ideas behind the moves well. Progressing further, you may want to start using a chess program like ChessBase or online tools like Opening Explorer/Library on chess.com here or lichess.org here to work on your opening repertoire.
